Hi All,
Would like to know the answer for the below issue ( Came across in some forums but ans is not specified)
During refresh, at the time of oracle recovery...system is prompting to apply the archive log sequence number which
is not generated in the system.
What would be the methods to resolve the issue
Thanks
Suresh
Well, you did not tell us the sequence numbers, so we can only guess. We need to know, the sequence number from the start of your backup, the number you want to recover to and the number the recovery process ask for. Did you replace all controlfiles with the restore?
I can imagine at least three reasons for your problem:
- the logfile was not archived yet and is (or was) one of your online redo logs
- the logfile was archived, but not save by a backup
- there was a resetlogs lately

That is not possible as Oracle will only ask for a recovery if the database backup restored is not consistent & needs additional online/offline redo log files to be applied so that the database can be opened in a consistent state (txn's rolled back or committed).
It can be so that the necessary archive logs or online redo logs is missing - not available from a backup or on the file-system itself.
The only option would be to restore again with a previous backup for which you have a archive logs. But obviously you will have to live with the data loss.
