Hi Experts,
I am not able to perform 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' by DB13.
I have recently configured my 'init<SID>.sap' to take 'Whole database online + redo log backup' and its working perfectly fine.
I tried taking test backup for 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' but it didn't even started.
Thus I created another profile with name init<SID>back.sap and changed the Parameter
from 'backup_type = online' to 'backup_type = offline' and also tried by 'backup_type = offline_force'
rest all parameters being same as the profile init<SID>.sap
Kindly Suggest as I need to take set the backup Strategy as Mon-Fri -> 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' and Sat -> 'Whole database offline + redo log backup'
One more Query : While taking the redo log backup by DB13 why is it that some times it only saves the Files and some time it
saves and delete the files from the '/oracle/<SID>/oraarch' location. Please throw some light over this matter also.
Thanks,
Jitesh
Hi,
Check the job log for offlne backup , you should get some error to troubleshoot , if online backup is working fine offline should also work without changing any parameter .Also you may try only offline backup.
For BRARCHIVE there are multiple option to copy/save/delete go through below link
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0d/d30d544a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm

Hi Expert,
No Action Log is even getting created here. Thats why I am not able to identify the Reason. If I click on the
Action log it shows 'No action log found for this action'
and the Job Log Shows :
'
Job started
Step 001 started (program RSDBAJOB, variant &0000000000175, user ID JMP_BASIS)
Execute logical command BRBACKUP On host sapdev
Parameters:-u / -jid ALGOF20101105210300 -c force -t offline_force -m all -p initJMDback.sap -a -c force -p ini
tJMDback.sap -cds
Job finished
'
The Job Last for just matter of seconds.
and yes I have tried with both backup_type = offline and backup_type = offline_force
and thanks for the BRArchive link.
Please Suggest,
Jitesh.

Hi,
Along with the above suggestions, Also Check at alert<dbsid>.log file to get more information after/while execution of Whole database offline + redo log backup using DB13.
Your SAP system setup is integrated with MSCS cluster environment ?? If its the case refer [SAP Note 378648|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/378648].
While taking the redo log backup by DB13 why is it that some times it only saves the Files
and some time it saves and delete the files from the '/oracle/<SID>/oraarch' location.
Its due to -cds (copy+delete && save) option of Archive backup which is passed as in command -u / -jid ALGOF20101105210300 -c force -t offline_force -m all -p initJMDback.sap -a -c force -p initJMDback.sap -cds.
During copy+delete && save archive backup run,
while Copy+Delete action, old archive files which are already archived by brarchive in last archive backup
&&
while save action, all the archive log files which are still not backed up and are fresh in the Archvie backup run will be saved to Tape by brarchive.

Hi,
SAP BASIS Patch Level ?
Brtools version ? Ensure that latest brtools programs are in use.
alert<dbsid>.log file (located at /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/)is complaining anything while you are executing this action ?
Have you tried to execute such Offline+REdo log backups using brback command at command level ? (try to run it under <sid>adm user and under ora<sid> user)
Also post the output of the following select queries only for SAPSR3/SAPSR3DB and OPS$ database users.
select grantee, granted_role from dba_role_privs;

Hi Mr Bhavik,
Thanks for your reply.. Here are the details you have asked for.
1.My SAP BASIS Patch Level is : 10. ( We shall be updating it by the end of this Year)
2. Br*tools version is :
BRTOOLS 7.00 (11)
kernel release 700
patch level 11
3. I don't have any file with name alert<dbsid>.log file (located at /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/) but i do have alert_<SID>.log
I execute the command more -p G alert_JMD.log
after my 'Whole database offline + redo log backup' again failed at DB13 but I was not able to see any specific complains while executing the above action.
I got the Error Detailed Log in DB13 as :
Detail log: beeneedv.aft
BR0051I BRBACKUP 7.00 (20)
BR0055I Start of database backup: beeneedv.aft 2010-11-08 13.16.43

4. No I have not yet Tried 'execute such Offline+REdo log backups using brback command', will Try and post it Definately
5. Query : select grantee, granted_role from dba_role_privs;

Hi,
Database level roles are looking Ok.
But, SAP BASIS Patch, Kernel 700 patch level , Br*tools patches are at very low level. Please upgrade them by applying entire SUport Pckage Stack to avoid such issues.
Wht about Oracle release ?
Also look at this [SAP Note 988038|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/988038] and apply it if it is required or If you are not planning for immediate upgrades. But atleast apply New SAP Kernel patches and br*tools.

Hi Jitesh,
Could you please tell us if you can execute the "brconnect -f check" successfully?
If not, may be there is a problem with your user OPS$ or maybe the user SAP<SID> is locked.
To check if the user is locked, execute the following request SQL:
SQL> select username, lock_date from dba_users;
Best regards,
Son

Hi Jitesh,
So you have first to unlock the user system with the following command SQL
SQL> alter user system account unock;
But verify that the password you used in the command brarchive is correct.
Normally, if your user OPS$ is correct, it's better to user OPS$ . You can do with "connect /" and this let you connect with the user OPS$.
Hope it helps
Best regards,
Son
