fra SAP ECC 5.0 under Win32 Bit to ne hardware Windows 2008 64 Bit

Hi there,

We have SAP ECC 5.0 under Windows Server 2003 / win 32 Bit.

And we want to upgrade to ECC 6.0 and we have now a new hardware and Windows Server 2008 / 64 Bit.

The normal way is:

1) Install SAP ECC 5.0 in the new hardware with Windows Server 2008 / 64 Bit

2) Make a DB copy from Windows Server 2003 / win32 to the new hardware with Windows Server 2008.

Is the is the normal and easy way to do.

Is there any better way to do? What about if I clone the all system from win32 to win 2008 and upgrade there?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Hanseatik

I suggest you to go through Note 960769 - Windows: Migration from 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64)

You can use a system copy of Windows 32-bit to Windows 64-bit using the same database platform. Using a homogenous system copy for which the target system is installed on a 64-bit operating system. You can either use R3load or Database-specific procedures..

HI Sunnil,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you think its better if I have on both systems, source system and target system Windows Server 2003?

Does this makes anything easy process.

Thanks and best regards

Hanse,

It is almost same for 2003 or 2008 , so recommned you to go directly for Windows Server 2008 64 bit , in place of Windows server 2003 64 bit.

Also Consult note mentioned by Sunil in earlier post for DB specific info.

Does this makes anything easy process.

In my personal opinion you don't want to make the processes easier, you want the box to be up to date.

In anycase as mentioned by Gagan theres no mayor difference in between them.

Hi Hanse,

Firstly you need to check whether ECC 5.0 is supported on OS win2008 ??

As per the SAP PAM, it is not supported.

The only option remain is to upgrade the system on your existing hardware and then move your ECC 6.0 from win2003 server to Win 2008 server.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you all for your reply.

As Anil mentioned Windows 2008 is not supported SAP ECC 5.0, if this is the case so this is bad for me. I can not upgrade the source system (Windows 2003 + ECC 5.0 + MSSQL 😎 to ECC 6.0 because I have no space.

What do you think about this:

1) I install Windows Server 2003 on target system (I hope is will be 64 bit?)

2) On the target I install SAP ECC 5.0 on

3) Make a DB Copy from source system to target system

4) Upgrade on target system from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0

I think this the secure solution and the only I can do because of no space on source system.

Let me know.

Hi,

Yes, above will be the perfect step for doing upgrade, just you have to include one more point i.e

5. Do export and import the SAP system from Win2003 server to Win2008 server.

This is what step i have followed for 1 of my customer.

Thanks

Hi Anil,

the step nr 5 you mentioned is on the target system and its only in case I want to upgrade from Windows server 2003 to Win 2008.

Is this what I you meant?

Normaly I can stop by step 4.

Best regards
