Hi,

We are trying to access custom JAVA webdynpro application from an iPad, but nothing is opening up from the iPad browser.

What can be the possible reasons for this? Any kind of SICF enablement or opening up of ports in the network?

Any inputs are welcome!!

TIA,

Regards

Deepthi

If you are new to Web Dynpro Java and want to get familiar with the Web Dynpro perspective in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio, this is the right tutorial for you. You will learn how to develop a simple application that allows the user to enter his name and after having clicked a button, he will be navigated to another view, where this name is displayed.

Kay, I disagree...there are plenty of mobile webdynpro apps that work great on a mobile browser...definetly there are right times to build native apps ...however, we are looking for a simple browser-based app to do approvals of invoices that is device-agnostic.

Hi Kelly,

If you want to go for a mobile web app, you should take a look at these excellent blogs by John Moy :

I can't believe that it can be SAP strategy to introduce non standard web based UI controls to mobile browsers. If it is not javascript, plain html do not show it in mobile browsers. Not to mention plugins like flash etc. Webdynpro is not a standard web technology. Even though it might work!

Hi,

it is possible to show Java Web Dynpro applications on a mobile device in general, but the controls and the ui should be optimized for the mobile device.

Safari devices are not officially supported so far for Mobile Web Dynpro.

Supported are Windows Mobile devices and Blackberry devices. I also got some good results with Symbian devices.

You can find more inforamtion on Mobile Always Connected at:

We have an existing web dynpro java application that runs on the Blackberry browser. Any easy way to extend this to Safari for ipad/iphone?

Nobody should ever try to display a webdynpro application on a mobile device. Not even in a mobile browser like Safari. The technology is not optimized for this type of usage and the UI behaves totally different to a webpage. Even if you try starting a webdynpro with safari on your desktop, UI elements are cluttered. I suggest building a native app.

hi Deepthi,

that basically means that the WDJ app cannot seem to be displayed by the Safari Browser in the iPad. This has happened to other mobile devices earlier where i would get a error message that this can't be viewed. If the portal opening for you in the ipad? maybe somehting else could be wrong.

cheers,
