Anyone tried using zdate/DSTswitch_contloctime ?

Hi guys!

As the end of daylight saving is approching we were just planning the shutdown of our SAP systems when we found the option to slow down the time of SAP with the parameter: zdate/DSTswitch_contloctime ?

My question is whether anyone tried this before? Does this really work? What happens when the OS changes the time back?

Thanks,

Peter

The best is not to use daylight saving feature at all, but run in UTC for continous operation.

Be aware of restrictions regarding time zone settings at user level and connected systems doing data exchange with each other.

See note 7417

Hello,

As mentioned in note 950114, a functionality was implemented so that

the time during the daylight saving time switch runs 'slower' which

could help to prevent a 'necessary downtime'.

Unfortunately the only component which declares itself to be able

to run with "zdate/DSTswitch_contloctime = on " in the double hour

is SAP_BASIS (please see note 7417). The only application component

known to support this is banking, but also this application still

recommends the downtime.

I think the blog may help you: /people/tikkana.akurati/blog/2009/12/09/daylight-saving-time-and-slowing-down-the-time

Thanks Sunil, but I read that blog already and that doesn't really help me. I know how it should work, but I haven't seen anybody using it and I don't really want to risk it, so I'm looking for somebody who actually has experiences with letting the systems run during time change.

Have you used this feature before?

This parameter is in our system including production, and not had any issues in past few years.

Hi,

Have you referred the following thread for the same parameter discussion ?

[Daylight savings time|; (Reply of Stephen Jones)

[Is it possible/advisable to use time synchronization under i5|;

[sunos solaris suspend postpone time-switch|;

Hi Bhavik!

I saw those threads, but nobody actualy mentioned using the feature. Also, in the reply from Stephen, they have a different platform and using the platform's feature not the one from SAP. Our systems are running on linux, so I'm trying to gather information on "slowing down the time" in SAP on linux. So far 1 positive answer from Sunil.

Best,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Was wondering how you went with your DST shift into winter time (eg double hour).

Did you stop your SAP systems?

If not, and you left them running, how did everything go?

Cheers

Shaun
