Create custom dimension in Universe on SAP BW

Hi ,

I am using BO XI 3.1 on SAP BW.

I need to create a custom hierarchy where one level is a concatenation of two strings.The two strings are two dimensions in the BW query.Is it possible to create a custom dimension object in the Universe which concatenates the two strings??

I did quite a lot of research on this and kept coming up with the statement that it is not possible to create custom dimension objects using MDX ,or any other expression, in a Universe built on SAP BW. It allows for creation of calculated measures only.

Please let me know if anyone is aware of a method of creating a custom dimension object which concatenates 2 strings.Please note that the output of the concatenation would be a string.

You can create this at report level by creating a variable with type dimension . As far as I know this is not possible in the Universe.

I am trying to do the same thing and cannot create it at the report level because I need to build it into the Hierarchy for drilling. Any luck?

You'll probably have to build a virtual characteristic in BW
