Hello,

The last two weeks on one of the application server of SAP ECC production system, we faced the following error

Runtime Errors DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR

Except. CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB

Database error text........: "[121] TCP Provider: The semaphore timeout period

has expired.#[121] Communication link failure"

Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/FTCH/BSEG ]"

Please check the entries in the system log (Transaction SM21).

We tried to resolve it by restarting the SAP ECC but without luck.

Pls advice.

Hello,

Please check your network/firewall configuration. Maybe the connetions

will be closed automatically after a time slice or a network error exist

(a timeout is defined).

Please, check it point of note 392892. It is also valid for MSSQL 2005

This kind of error can also point to network issue. Please, review the

network configuration and components with your network team.

You can also refer the Microsoft link :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325487/en

Regarding the connection method, you should check if TCP/IP is on the

top of the stack over named pipes and shared memory. In this sense, you

can read:

98678 - SQL Server Connection Issues

208632 - TCP/IP network protocol for MSSQL

Ok,DI is the Dialog Instance/Application server..Also this can be due to hardware or operating system problems. Check the system, together with your hardware partner and operating system partner, to correct the cause of the problem.Run a consistency check on the database and remove any inconsistencies.

Dear Mohammed,

Re you question:

The CI is installed on the 2-node cluster server which hosts the sql database. This machine hosts only message server, nothing else.

What is DI? Sorry for asking, but i'm newbee on SAP and i don't know all acronyms yet.

Thanks for reply!

Kind Regards

"""""""""""Database error text........: "121 TCP Provider: The semaphore timeout period

has expired.#121 Communication link failure""""""""""

Is the CI and DI in the same host?

Usually this error happens when a connection to a remote SQL db timeout and the connection drops...

Upgrade your kernel with the latest patch level also update tp and R3trans.
