Business Object Data Services (BODI) without SAP MDM?

Hi,

From an architectural point of view; do you always have to use SAP MDM when you want to use the Business Object Data Services (e.g. for data validity checks when creating customers)?

Or can you use Business Object Data Services in combination with SAP ECC without MDM?

Is your point of creation (POC) is BODS or SAP ECC for customer master??

Well you can do duplicate check and data cleasing in BODS also but that is after creating records which may not be useful.

In case of MDM - BODS - MDM scenario MDM is used as POC where it can validate the data / do duplicate check before creating records in MDM...further if record is clean then it will be created in MDM and pushed to SAP ECC.

Hi Rc,

Our POC is SAP ECC.

I understood that the duplicate check can be triggered while creating the customer using BODS, before actually creating the customer in the ECC database. So we don't need MDM for that right?

Data quality treatment for local systems is possible without MDM. When you need data quality in a global context (across heterogeneous, multiple-system landscapes, additional MDM is crucial.

All Depends on your business needs.

1) As in if you want to use most effective cleansing (BODS contains inbult infor for Adderess cleansing) along with some data governance(Validation, assignments,MDM Workflow) I would say fo with BO-MDM Integration.

2) Here I am not sure via BODS - ECC you can handle ongoing maintainance , it is supreb for first time data load.

so it is better if you use ECC-BO-MDM ---> BI/ECC for smooth transition through out landscape.

3) Here also try to check the data structure compactiblity between BODS and ECC as per their version, it can also create a big impact.

Hope these points can clear many doubts

The business need is to do a duplicate check when creating a customer. This is available in BODS, however, to use this functionalitity do we need to have MDM in place (or is the duplicate check directly performed on the ECC database)?

As far as I know this BODS is good for Adderess and Name Cleansing(Built in capability). but it is good if you use MDM in your landscape as for some strategies and validations.

it may help for maintaining the ongoing Data
