CPU Occupation in MDS

Our customer has 660,000 records in MDM server and CPU occupation rate is moving between 60% and 90%.

Inbound process takes more than 3 hours and It is really hard to open data menager at peack time.

MDM repository has about 50 outbound port and delay interval is 1800 second.

Our customer is planning to increase the number of CPU but they are wondering wether it can wife out all performance releated issues.

Please advise me.

Hello Chang Young,

Here is a link of very good technical explanation...

Hope, this will help in optimizing your MDM performance.

Hi Chang,

Our customer is planning to increase the number of CPU but they are wondering wether it can wife out all performance related issues.

Definitely you can find improvment in performance but i would suggest not to just increase number of CPU also increase RAM and check network bandwidth.

also make sure end user desktop configuration to open MDM Data Manager and try to schedule importing and exporting of data after peak time

Hi Jignesh,

We checked memory and network, other hardware components also.

There was nothing special.

Now our customer rescheduling there inbound and outbound processes but we are not sure these can save CPU consumption to under 60%.

If you know how MDM server manage multi-threads with multi CPU, please let me know.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Chang,

In MDM 7.1 the old mds.ini option "CPU Count" has been replaced by "Max Threads Per Operation" The parameter defines the maximum number of threads that a single operation is allowed to use. Default value is Auto, which automatically limits the number of threads an operation can use to the number of logical cores on the MDM Server host (if the server has more than two cores, the maximum number of threads MDS will use per operation is equal to u201Cnumber of cores u2013 1u201D).

You can also set "Max Threads Per Operation" manually based upon specified number of threads per operation.

for e.g.

A multi-core processor combines two or more independent cores into a single package.

The individual core is normally a CPU. A dual-core processor contains two cores, and a

quad-core processor contains four cores.

Number of cores = 2 MDS will use max 1 thread per operation

Number of cores = 4 MDS will use max 3 threads per operation

Note : after making changes to MDS.INI file restart the MDS server
