SFTP Adapter

Hi all

We are thinking of creating our own adapter for sftp but I cant find any documentation on how to create your own adapter. Or should I do this in a adapter modlule? If anyone has documentation on how to create adapter or any info or comments on adapter module it would be appreciated.
