Cos of lacking of space, we need to change a disk array for PRD system. We put directory /usr/sap/trans and oracle data files on disk array. Is it OK for us just to copy the files to new disk array and mount to servers? Or the path of SAP directory is related to filesystem name so that we'd have to restore the system?
Regards,
Chris
Hi Chris,
For HP UNIX usually what we do is we will shoutdown all the applications(oracle and SAP) then we will create the new file system with new name (EX L oracle/SID/sapdata1 to oracle/SID/sapdata1new) and then we will copy the data to the new file system after the copying is over we will mount that LV on the directory /oracle/SID/sapdata1.
and we will check all the permissions.
Hope this will give you some clear idea.
Thanks,
Chaitanya

Make sure you perform copy disk in single user mode. (boot Unix server in single user mode) to avoid file being used and data corruption.

Hi,
You don't need to do the restore, SAP directory structure depends on the files system. You can create a temp file systems on the new disk arry, copy files from the old fs to new and then rename the temp file systems with the standard . ie /usr/sap,/oracle...etc
