Unix - UID conflict issue while installing Dialog Instance.

Dear Experts

As u all aware, on UNIX platforms "UID" play key role in the permissions etc.

Requirement

System -1

We have one system on AIX machines with SAP SID Q11 (ECC)

q11adm - UID is 520

oraq11 - UID is 521

System -2

-

---

We have one system on AIX machines with SAP SID Q12 (BI)

q12adm - UID is 520

oraq12 - UID is 521

Issue

======

When i am tryinto install a DIALOG INSTANCE for Q11 system on "System -2"

The installation is getting stopped with q11adm - UID can not set to 520 as "q12adm" is already existing.

I have run thru multiple links & docs - summarized as below

"As a general requirement, the user IDs and the group IDs must be the same on all hosts."

But to crack / tweak this & to complete the dialogin installation for System Q11 on System-2 as mentioned above.

Hi ,

I suppose you understand that the mistakes where done during the install of Q12. The person installing shouldn't have used the same uid's of Q11 .

I understand now you dont want to go though the pain of making that change for Q12, which makes sense.

You can assign different uid (q11adm) for the new apps , but you might have permissions issues for files which shared by CI and new apps server. You have to make sure those file are readable by both. My understanding is that It is going to be challenge.

Hi...NEEL....THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

TO BRING CLARITY & REQUIREMNT.

THESE 2 DIFFERENT SYSTEMS AND INSTALLED 3 YEARS BEFORE.

THESE 2 SYSTEMS ARE FROM FROM QA LANDSCAPE.

OUR SOP'S WERE DEMANDING UID 520 - 521 for all Quality Systems installations and they did right at that time.

NOW WE SEE.

Q11 is bit over loaded & Q12 is Slightly low loaded.

On the above load analysis - We thought to install a DI for Q11 on "Q12" system to levarage the HW resources of Q12 System.

Hope i explained the scenario to comfort end.

We are still looking this task as you said challenge and how we can acheive this requirement in different .

Any workaround thoughts ?!'

the solution is:

- stop Q12

- change the uid's of q12adm, oraq12 to something new

- start Q12

- install the dialog instance
