Supplier Product Number on SRM shopping cart

What is the use the fied "Supplier Product Number" on shopping cart. I maintained the vendor material number on the info record in ECC. But I can't see this field coming to SRM - Supplier Product Number. Any insight on how to populate this field from ECC or the use of this field.

I think this is a new field introduction in SRM 600 onwards for catalog shopping carts.

Note 1287047 - Supplier product number is not visible in shopping cart

Note 1398010 - Supplier product number editable for external catalog items
