Hi forum,
I am very new to sap netweaver and sap in general so please bare with me. I managed to finish the installation of the netweaver 7 trial version. I am trying to start the local sap system from the sap managment console, but it never turns green. It only remains yellow for the time (secs) I specify before trying to start it.
Any ideas on what may be wrong?
Hi Mike,
As above suggestions, please check the log files and check/update the following before starting the server.
- Update JAVA_HOME system enviromental variable in my computer (My computer > Properties >> Advance >> Startup and
Recovery >> Enviromental Variable >> System Variables >> Add new JAVA_HOME parameter with path for installed Java JDK)
- Check database server services (Start > Run > Services.msc >> Start your database services manually and change properties as automatic)
- Start > RUN > drivers > etc > services and add an entry sapms<SID> 36<systemnumber>/tcp
- Update your server IP address and host name in host file entry at (Start > RUN > drivers > etc > host file)
Then try to start the server. Hope it will works

Arun Jaiswal

As suggested I tried to find the developer trace. In sap management console I expanded SAP Systems, expanded NSP, expanded MSEN - PC and located the process list. I get to entries in that.
Process msg_server
Process disp+work

I added the disp+work developer trace because if I add it in the above post it makes the whole post unreadable. Cartridge returns are lost

Hi,
from j2ee point of view I'd also vote for starting the investigation in the WORK folder.
This is under /usr/sap/<SID>/<central instance>/work
Start your analysis on the file dev_jcontrol.
(If this is a release higher than 71, then the file calls dev_jstart.)
If it is complaining about the bootstrap, check the file with such a name.
If it is complaining about the severnode, check the files dev_server0, std_server0, etc.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Ervin

What happen later, does it come down to gray??

Hi,
You just need to check following traces in your instance WORK folder, to see what is going on.
- dev_ms (for Central Instance)
- dev_disp
- dev_w0, dev_w1

Hi Mike,
if you right click on a process which has problem coming up, can you find in its context menu an entry like 'developer trace'?
Can you see errors there ?
Thank you!
Best Regards,
Ervin
