Hi There,

We are installing SAP portal on Oracle and solaris. I had a doubt for execution of $ORACLE_HOME/root.sh as root user.

Do we need to execute $ORACLE_HOME/root.sh as root user only(what is process if root user access not provided to us) or can we use other user with root privilages. Please provide your valueble inputs ASAP.

Regards,

SAP recommends to user root to execute root.sh for oracle installation.

alternatively you can also use user who has root privileges.

I hae checked with oracle team and root.sh scripts in unix systems can be executed as root only else it will not give the results as expected.

If you look into the script root.sh, you will see a hard-coded check for user root.

So the answer will be:

No, you cannot use other user.

Edit this script at your own risk ....
