Database migration from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g

Hi All

I have a source system on SAP R3 4.7Ex2.00 running on Oracle 9i database.

I am planning to install another system using SAP R/3 4.7Ex200 with Oracle 10g database for the purpose of SAP upgrade.

My query is that i have taken an offline backup of the source system having Oracle 9i. Is it possible to import the Oracle 9i data directly into Oracle 10g using the backup/restore utility using brtools to avoid performing the database upgrade steps.

Please advice

Regards

Lokesh

Hello Lokesh,

No this is definitely not possible.

But you can do an export / import with R3load - you can export the data out of 9i R2 and import them into 10g R2.

You can't avoid performing all the database upgrade steps, but part of it.

Have a look at SAP Note 932722 - Upgrade to Oracle 10.2 during a database copy

I forgot to mention that the operating system is Solaris 10g.........does that make any difference..........the SAP Note is for Windows OS

Just found that this has been discussed previously:

The recommendation was export/import, as also suggested by Stefan.
