Hi:
SAP official documents only mentioned integrating SAP business systems or NWDS java applications via PI Direct Connection.
Can other applications or non-sap systems be integrated by PI Direct Connection?

No. Non SAP based systems are not supported.It can only be used for SAP to SAP based integration

At present (with PI7.1 EHP1)the direct connection mechanism is available for ABAP AS based system only .
