Dear Experts,

I am trying to dp, backup restoration. My brbackup was successfully completed.

I copied the files aeeerwgo.sve, backPRD.log, beeerfdg.and, and initPRD.sap into "/oracle/PRD/sapbackup/"

Stop SAP, Oracle, and Listener control. Logged in as ORA user.

Then execute the restoration command, "brrestore -c -p initPRD.sap" got an error.

Can any one suggest where i made an mistake.

Hmm, that is weird and may be buggy.

According to this

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/02/9f90e318689043b22134dafc8e46ac/frameset.htm

it should work this way, and I already used it, but that was quite a couple of months ago.

Anyway, if you do not manage to get the entire run in a single one, because it is

allways aborting, you might need to do it one by one or manually.

Check this log

/oracle/PRD/sapbackup/beeerfdg.and

for all messages of datafiles being backed up. "Grep" what you need and you can make a script

grep "#SAVED" /oracle/PRD/sapbackup/beeerfdg.and

might be something to start with.

brrestore -c -p initSID.sap -b beeerfdg.and -m /oracle/PRD/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1

brrestore -c -p initSID.sap -b beeerfdg.and -m /oracle/PRD/sapdata1/undo_1/undo.data1

:

:

This way, you get a single brrestore run for each datafile.

The ones that go ok, leave them alone.

The ones that abort, repeat and try again until successfull.

Be very sure about a file being restored ok is not being written to later again by another run,

that aborts. This will garble the datafile.

Sounds ugly and it definately does not have to go this way,

but if you can't get it to work otherwise, it might be a way to work around it.

In the end you might need to restore the controlfile as well (to all three mirror locations)

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/02/9f90e318689043b22134dafc8e46ac/frameset.htm

brrestore -m 0 ...

and then start to get the archivelogs you need.

You might need to do the actual recovery manualy from sqlplus.

Volker

Just thinkinig about something diffrent...

As you restored the backup protokoll, you are either restoring to a new box or to new filesystems...???

Did you enable to use large files on those?

The ones that succedd, are not only those smaller that 2G and when something has to be grow bigger than that .. bonce ?

Hi guys,,,,

i done the restoration. now i can't able to open the database..when i tried to open the database it shows the following error.

ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oracle/PRD/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1'

ORA-01202: wrong incarnation of this file - wrong creation time.

i've checked the locations of the control files. nothing wrong in that.. then i searched. all advised to take a fresh database and archieve backup and restore that. so i took a fresh backup and restored that. now i tried to start the database. now also its not opening stating the same..

are you restoring from online or offline backup? If this is a online backup then you also need to apply redo logs created during the backup.

recover automatic database until cancel using backup controlfile;

HOW did you do it?

Obviously the current controlfile does not belong to the database restored...

Hi volker,

i've taken the online backup and restored the database by "brrestore -c -p initPRD.sap" and restored the archieve logs by the "brrestore -a 1182-11115". and both the restoration completed successfully. the error is while starting the database. the database is mounted but not opened.. i've checked the control files in the locations mentioned in initPRD.ora file. all files are created at same time of restoration only..

Santhosh Kumar.

Hi,

check the *.rsb log for the section, where it did restore the controlfiles.

Esp. where it took the source from and if the traget corresponds to your expected locations.

If everything fails, you still can create new controlfiles, but it would be better to get

the correct binary ones to work.

OK, I just see you opened another thread for this, so I'll stop writing here.

Looking in the other thread it looks like you already tried an OPEN RESETLOGS without

doing a recovery before ....

Hi,

As per the note 400241, try to reset the password of the SAPOWNER with the following command at the OS level.

brconnect -u system/<password> -f chpass -o <sapowner> -p <password>

If this doesn't solve the issue, try to set the standard password to the SAPOWNER at the SQL prompt as follows.

ALTER USER <sapowner> IDENTIFIED BY sap;

NB: The above command will bypass the OPS$ mechanism.

I guess the same issue is duplicated in other thread also. Please close one of the threads to avoid it getting locked.

Hi,

mind to say how you did it ?

Did you try one by one, or did you finally got a all-in-one run runing successfully?

If yes, what did you do to bypass the gunzip error?

Hi...

No..

i tried one by one also, but its not working...there was some other issue with the system itself.. i raised the RAM from 3gb to 4gb.. then also it din work.. then i uninstalled and installed linux oly and tried to copy the media files of nearly 20GB. even that process also killed out of memory. so i changed the system.. that was with just 2gb ram. it was working good now.. now i finished restoration in that system... so, there was some problem with the hardware of the system..

Thank you all guys for your help..

Santhosh Kumar.

Hi,

the exit code 9 refers to cpu, not filesystem quota. They might be user specific.

So what is "ulimit -a" as oraprd telling you ?

> prdtest:oraprd 1> brrestore -c -p -f initPRD.sap

Humm, at least I thought you would crosscheck the "-f" option and not simply typing it in.

BTW this is always a good advice for anything you get from any forum.

Alway crosscheck, otherwise you might get things worse.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/0d/d30df04a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm

So the correct use would be:

brrestore -c -p initPRD.sap -f logfilename of your aborted restore run

It analyzes the log for what has to be restored and what has already been restored and

does a restore only for the rest. If it fails again, you might need to switch the parameter to the

next aborted run, as some parts may be now restored from the first and some form the second run.

As for the message about the backup being incomplete...

This is normal, if you did restore the backup logfile itself as well.

(... because at the moment when it is saved, the backup is not yet "completed succesfully")

but it contains everything that is needed for a successfull restore.

Hi,

Try with the following command.

brrestore -k yes -b beeerfdg.and

Hm,

what OS are you on?

Gunzip ended with exit code 9 ...

exit code 9 means shortage of CPU quota on several linux versions.

See, if you have those in place and disable the quotas.

Decompressing is a high CPU activity.

When you configure to abort if a certain CPU level is reached, no wonder it terminates.

Oh,

and while you are fighting this, since you already restored parts successfully,

do try to do the repeats with the -f ( fillup ) option of brrestore.

No need to overwrite the already successfully restored datafile prd.data1 again, once it had been restored ok.
