attach MS word documents

Hi All,

Can we load a MS word file, MS excel file etc in mdm thru DM or any,

I know that we can load pdf and txt files.

also what is Knowlodge Management,is it a seperate module, how is it

related to mdm and when do we go for it?

pls let me know.

Hi,

Yes you can upload MS word file, MS excel file etc in mdm thru DM .

Just follow the steps..

1.Open data manager

2. selecy Binary Objects as main table.

3.right click on the records section and click on add

4. A popup will open ..

5.assign a datagroup and click on add.

6.select the file from your system and click ok.

It will upload your file.

About KM..

As far as my knowledge KM is separate thing and mostly related to the mainatainence of document for the product inall the supported language.

i have followed the steps you have provided and uploaded my word documents inside my Binary Objects table.

Now how do I link to the master table records? I tried to link the record rt click, Add/Link New ..... just like adding images

does not work out.

Please let me know if I have missed something out.

Hi,

If you have not added field of type binary object in maintable then first create a field of type Lookup[Ext. Binary Object]

in console.

Start data manager

Go into record detail section

Double click on the field that you have added

A new screen will open "Select Single binary object"

Select the data group tab from lower side of screen and double click on the group where you added that object

All the objects that you added in group will come to "Available binary objects"

select the object that you want to attach with the record

press ok.

Now you can see that your object is linked with record.

Please follow the mentioned steps and if you find any issue then please get back to us.

Hi Venu,

To store files using MDM, Try using special table of Type Binary Objects.

As far as KM is concerned , it is part of EP. In KM you can store any files i mean you can store MS word as well as MS-Excel files. In EP, You can integrate EP with MDM to show data in the form of I-views and can also here show link to that file stored in KM. So if you are using EP then you can use this option of KM to store data files like MS word etc.
