I am logged on to my IDES (client 000) using the SAPUSER username. I was about to define a new text type for customer object (Central Text); tcode votxn. I clicked on the TEXT TYPE button (pls see window 1) and I got 2 caution messages:
1. Caution: The table is cross client
2. You are not allowed to change cross-client Customizing
I was expecting to get the NEW ENTRIES button (so that I can create a new text type) but it did not appear (pls see window 3). Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding with the term "cross-client" is that any changes will reflect to all of the clients in the system.
My question: What should I do now to get the NEW ENTRIES button?
PLEASE help. I am new to this. I am a newbie. thank you.

Hi Anwar,
The system is configured in such a way that cross client customising is not allowed.
Go to tcode SCC4 and in the place "Cross-Client Object changes", if the value is anything other than "Changes to Repository and Cross client customising allowed", you have to change the setting to this value.
Once this is done, the tab "Changes and transports for Client specific objects" should have the value "Changes without automatic recording, no transports allowed" as it is IDES system and there are no systems in the landscape. This is to facilitate the configuration of client specific configuration.
Once these settings are set, try your configuration, it should work without any problem. Let me know if you have any problem

You are not allowed to change cross-client Customizing
It is because of your basis team controlling the authorisation. The object for the area what you had indicated is KNA1 and send SU53 to your basis team.

Hi,
For changing the authorization in your personal computer, you should use Tcode: PFCG. There are a few links that you can check.
You create a new role for yourself and give full authorization. Then, assign it to your own user id.... then it should work. Check the below links for details.

Hope this helps

Try Transaction code VOTXN - select Customer - Central texts. click on "Text Types" tab. Then from the list select any text type and youc an do a "copy as" then change the id and description to what you want.
Text IDs are cross client- so if you create a new text ID in one developmnet client then it will appear in all development cleints.

Sai
