why does MOPZ select all SP's for all Software components

Hi,

Bit of a bizarre situation. We look after an SAP system for a product manufacturing business. Now to upgrade their system we use the wonderful SolMan to select EHP4. Now in the technical usages in MOPZ we only select the technical usages that are relevant for manufacturing so that we get the correct support packs for the right software components. Now further on as we select the kernel and SPAM/SAINT update, why does it by default, select everything including Oil and Gas, Public Services, Utilities, Financial Services when the business itself does not specialise in any of these business sectors and these were not selected in the technical usages. Also when go further to validate the queue it says that we have not got a valid queue and need oil and gas and utilities packs. Is this some sort of bug becuase its just odd when we are not targetting the upgraded system for use for Public Services or Oil and Gas. is there an OSS note fix for this or some manual config to sort this out becuase it does confuse us as to what is going on here and have what we selected right and valid?

thanks,

Mani

Hi,

first of all you should check in SMSY for system definition that only appropriate usage type should be defined. If you have defined any usage type in SMSY in system definition then it will automatically take into account while you download package from MOPZ.

Secondly, Could you please tell us whether it is downloading packages of all different utilities which you have not selected to EHP4 level ?

Thanks

Sunny

Hello Mani

This isn't an issue.

IS-OIL, IS-H, IS-M and other components are core components of SAP ERP 6.0, they're installed together with SAP ERP 6.0, but this not means that they'll be activated. They're mandatory for the upgrade and you don't need worry with this fact. In this case these core components are being calculated correctly to version 600 with EHP4.

Note 856284 # #SAP ERP Central Component 6.0: Inst./upgrad and architecture# has more details about this statement.

Thanks Mateus,

Thanks for clearing that up. This means that these packs will be installed and hence will take up unecessary storage space regardless of the fact if they are activated or not and increasing the length of the upgrade time and regardless that storage is very cheap these days?

I personally believe this is a poor design approach from SAP. As a manufacturing business we should only install the technical uages that we have highlighted not others that are seen, as core to ERP 6.0. I would have thought that MOPZ would only highlight those packs that are needed to support the installation of technical usages we have highlighted and no other. I don't think as SAP customer we will be please to hear about this, as the current system we have does not have these and we are trying to keep down the cost of increasing our storage unecessarily.

Thanks,
