Hello,
In our SAP Environment we getting backups using HP Data Protector
For last 7 days i have analysis the Online Backup Sizes
For this Online backup it includes DB + ArchiveLogs
Day
1 161800 MB
2 163300 MB
3 164570 MB
4 163785 MB
5 164900 MB
6 162750 MB
7 (Yesterday) 166150 MB
In this system average Daily changed data size is about 200 MB. (Mainly changing on PSAPSR3 Tablespace only)
So im confused why this backup size change suddenly getting decrease.
for example Day 5 -4 , It decrease from about 1000+ MB.
Any idea how this things happends.... ?
Is there any relationship between the backing up of archivelogs , for this
Thanks
Hi,
The database growth should not be corelated with the arhive log count and size. During the peak hours, the changes in the database will be high and the archive log count will be more compared to the normal business hours.
Analysing the archive log count for the period mentioned in your post will give your more information.

Okay. I have analyzed the archived logs.
As said, ArchiveLogs size and count is the main reason for the vary in the Backup Sizes.
Overall DB size is growing up.
Example:
163851 MB
163930 MB
164241 MB
164374 MB
Archive Logs Sizes are as follows;
2816.154 MB
2383.858 MB
4485.587 MB
3164.093 MB

I see a simple reason. you are using:
DB + ArchiveLogs
so, amount of activity changed from day to day, so, on day 4, you had less activity thus generating less offline redo logs. Maybe day 4 is a Sunday?

Yes, for example.
You can check the detail logs of the backup to see how many archive logs have been backed up.
