Hi All
We are trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 on a Windows SQL environment. The same server already hosts another instance of R/3for Development. During installation, the process is struck at the start instance phase. I have checked and R3trans is connecting to the database, however the dispatcher is not able to come up. I am attaching the dev_disp file for reference. Please help.

Hi,
Check the Windows Event Log for more details. I guess the issue should be with the unavailability of the security patch. Install the security patch as per the [SAP Note 1375494 - SAP system does not start after applying SAP kernel patch|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1375494] and thenretry the installation.
Hope this fixes ur issue.

Hi Varadhu
I check out the SAP Note and the event logs too and did not find any such error messages. The PDF attached to the note said to execute any SAP executable and if it gives error, it needs the WOndows patch. When i ran the ntchk.exe, it ran successfully and didnot give error.
Also, SAP DEV system is already running on this system, so it would be having the required patch

Lokesh
Hi,
you have some sort of memory problem on that box due to the 2 systems that you are trying to run. First thing I would do is double the size of your pagefile. Second reboot the system and try to start only the new system - it will most likely start. Third have a look at your instance profile and adjust the parameter em/initial_size_MB to your needs (for both systems).
Regards,
Sven
Also you should set the PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter in the instance profile of each instance you plan to run on that box.
By default SAP assumes it is the only thing running on the server, so it hogs all of the resources.
I have some servers that run 4 and 5 SAP systems on them without issue, just make sure you have enough memory on the box, the page file is at least 2x the system memory, and you set the PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter in each instance profile.
The lowest I would use would be
PHYS_MEMSIZE = 4096
And make sure when you add up the parameter for every instance that it does not exceed the physical memory on the box.
So, if you have 2 instances on a machine with 8 GB RAM, I would make sure to give no more than 4096 to each.
Hope this helps.
