Upgrade to SAP MaxDB 7.7 - SAP 4.6C

Hi all,

Our current SAP 4.6C system runs on Windows and uses SAP DB 7.4.3 (SAP Kernel and DB on 32bit platforms)

We want to move the database instance to a 64-bit hardware/os and upgrade to MaxDB 7.7. (SAP will remain 4.6C)

We have doubts about "conversion" from 32 to 64 bit:

- Is there any special procedure diferent from the upgrade guide? There is no especial mention about this in the guide.

- The SAP Kernel of the different dialog instances will remain in 32-bit. Is there any problem to connect to the 64-bit database instance?

Best regards,

Jorge

There's nothing to "convert" here. You can just restore the backup of your 32-Bit database into a 64-Bit MaxDB instance, reload the system tables and you're done.

This will not affect your business data.

However, there is no in-place "conversion" available - you either have to perform the backup/restore procedure or

you've to de-register the database from the 32-Bit MaxDB Kernel and re-register it with the 64-Bit Kernel.

Both options will work - backup/restore is likely the easier option.

Nope - as long as you're using the correct bit-version of the client software that fits your application server there won't be any issues.

See - the 64-Bit option is all about how much memory the database processes can address.

It's not about your data and not about the connection to the database.
