Currently we had a PR workflow approval on email system ( Microsoft Outlook ), meaning that

IPhone , Blackberry,etc.

The questions are :

1. What are the infrastructure required ?

2. Which one is better : using Webdynpro Abap or Webdynpro Java, or any other options ?

I think Vikas is right. Building your own WebDynpro might work for a while but it really doesnt do much in the way of addressing user experience. WebDynpro was not designed for mobile and will not run very well on many mobile devices. Even if it does run it wont be a great user experience. Furthermore, it fails to address one of the most important factors of mobility. How do you access the solution while you are offline?

Remember, if you are tethered to the network then you are not really mobile.

THe fact that you want the workflows to be extended beyond the Outlook environment to the mobile device reflects your sensitivity towards the end user experience.

Now keeping this fact in mind I would ask you to think of the user expereince if you build a mobile application using Web Dynpro screens which will need tuhe use to login into the application and check for any waiting workflows. Just think how many users will like to check for pending approvals on their own.

For a workflow like use case its very important that the usert is notified about an action needed. Your outlook mails achieve it and thus would be liked by the user. A Mobile WD app will not achieve it and will fail with the same users in acceptance.

As pointed by someone try using the Sybase Workflow solution which is built for nativeness on the devices like WM, BlackBerry, IPhone and provides an enriched experience to the ens users.

Building such a solution from scratch to your custom needs is also not very complicated.

Hi ,

It actually depends on what mobile you want to post it on? using ABAP webdynpro will not help because there could be memory issues with this. you would either need a portal or the mobile should support SAP.

The best would be to either use webdynpro for Java where you can design you own app and connect using the Mobile webdynpro online. Else you can use J2me and design your own screens, these options are for Blackberry
