sapstartsrv service not starting when installing SCS Instance on MSCS

Hi,

I am installing NW701 EHP1 SR1 on Windows 2008 and MS SQL server 2008.

I am installing NW Java on MSCS cluster. When i am installing SCS instance, i am getting an error stating sapstartsrv service is not able to start.

Here are some traces

HI Sailesh Kamaraj ,

I have facede this issue many a times while starting the sap system.

Luckly every time i replace the sapstartsrv.exe file with sapstartssrv.exe.new by renaming the later one.

Actually, in cluster sapstartsrv gets corrupted in kernel.

And replace sapstartsrv file in same way in ASCS, SCS and SYS folders.

Let us know if issue gets resolved.

Hello,

If you are using 701 or 710 kernel install this Microsoft patch and reboot Windows

Download and install the correct patch for your platform.

Try to copy sapstartstartsrv.exe from CT_RUN directory defined in start or instance profile

overwrite sapstartsrv.exe in exe directory should start then

Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package as mentioned in eth [Note 1375494 - SAP system does not start after applying SAP kernel patch|https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1375494]

Hope this will resolve ur issue.

Hi Sailesh,

In your kernel directory you will be having two sapstartsrv.exe and sapstartsrv.exe.new. Check whether both the files have the same timestamp and file size. If not then it means the files have got corrupted. Replace the corrupted one.

I ran several times, but still the same issue. The service is already installed. I checked it via services.msc. But when i try to star t the service, it is not starting.

can you look at sapstartsrv.log and OS eventlog while you get error when starting the service?

When i double click on sapstartsrv.exe, it opens a "SAP Service Install/Uninstall" screen.

I already read that note and nothing relevant to this was there.

That is fine.

If you confirm that you have met the OS authorization pre-requisites for the installation (installation user authorizations, SAP OS users group memberships etc..), you can retry the installation process.

Else you can try to install the service manually and continue with the installation.

Can you browse to 'I:\usr\sap\BT3\SCS03\exe', double click on sapstartsrv.exe and then post the result here?

Hope you have read 1171448 for the installation already.
