Trouble with creating TO's associated with Storage Units

Former Member

Hi All,

Below is the SAP informational message.

The number I am assigning is not currently in the internal number

range.

The warehouse is assigned to an external number range.

External assignment of numbers from an internal number range not

allowed

Message no. L3212

Diagnosis

The external storage unit number to be issued is in an internal

number range.

Procedure

Unlike other applications, external number ranges in the WM

system are not explicitly defined. Instead, they are taken from

the unused numbers in the internal number ranges when the "Issue

type" switch in the Customizing application allows external

numbers to be issued for the warehouse number.

Hi Arup

Please be informed the situation with the storage unit number

range is as follows:

Unlike in other application within the SAP-system you can't really

create an external number range. All storage unit number ranges are

internal as far as the WM-application is concerned. If you define an

external storage unit number range it is considered to be the number

range of another warehouse.

Please refer to note 14881 (release independent) :

"The "external" indicator in the number range definition is ignored. The

check is performed for all the number ranges defined.

The only external numbers that are accepted are those that do not appear

in a number range."

If you intend to take over the SU number assigned externally,

the SU number might be in the range of the internal number and this

is not allowed and because of this, you will get the error message

L3212. Also I've attached note 63720 for additional information.

Hope the above information helps.

Please also check attached note 565557.

FYI:

If you want to use external number ranges for the storage unit number

in WM - external - means that you can use numbers that are out of the

defined internal number range and that you do not define it. For example

if you want to use the number range 11 - 20 as an external number range

and all 1 to 10 as internal then you define only the internal number

range. The external number range in WM must not be defined also not

as an external number range. This is a bit different from other areas

where external number ranges are defined.

Hi,

I have not set the HU identification to external. Its is still an internal assignment.

Config for HU Management - External Identification - Number Range maintainence for HU Identification.

This is the location where I have maintained the number interval for HU and I have not set the external identification check box.

However the system still complains about the external number assignment when I go to confirm the TO for an outbound delivery or create a TO using I/b delivery.

Any help is appreciated. Are there some other configurations that I need to look into?

P.S: I did look at the OSS notes mentioned above.

Thanks,

Arup
