The short answer is yes you are free to use any middleware out there...but SAP recommends that you use XI for integration with MDM.
For example you can connect form:
Access, Excel,ODBC,Oracle,SQL Server,XML, XML Schema, or via a Port.
What XI does it give you more flexibility in controlling the "flow" of data for import and distribution

Hey Sridhar,
1. Transfering the Master data from legacy system to MDM.
MDM import manager can take the data in the format of access, excel, xml etc..
What would be required at the legacy system side will be to convert the data into one of these formats and then import them into the MDM.
2. Establishing Interfaces between SAP System and legacy Systems
Well SAP recommends use of SAP XI as the middleware interface between MDM and leagcy system.
Using XI you can build the harmonisation scenario where a change in either MDM or leagcy is reflecte in both the systems.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Tanveer.

Hi Friend,
How to?
1. Creating and/or Transferring Master Data from the
Legacy System
if you mean ?
The answer is <b>LegacySystem</b> ---> <b>MDM</b>
We can directly import/ transfer the file, becouse we
have faciltity in MDM itself.We can import file with
extension XML,CSV,XLS,txt,etc.
if you mean?
<b>LegacySystem</b>--> <b>SAP</b>
we should use any middleware in between.
<b>LegacySystem</b>><b>XI</b>><b>SAP</b>
2. Establishing Interfaces between SAP System and legacy
Systems
The answer is <b>SAP</b>> <b>XI</b>><b>LegacySystem
</b> transfer
If you want complete scenario documet regarding the above. provid me your email id. so that send it across
Please mark it as useful answer.
Sincerely,
Bala
