Move from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008....

Hi,

We are in the planning stages of moving our SAP ERP 6.0 system from a Windows 2003 system to a Windows 2008 system.

When moving to Windows 2008 does it matter what patch level you are at?

Thank you,

Neil

Hello Neil,

you mean the patch level from Window 2008 server (like SR1, SR2) or the patch level of your SAP system?

Are you using Oracle as database?

Regarding the SAP component/patch level, the NW 04 (640) is definetly not supported with Windows 2008 (any version - R1 or R2). From 700 onwards it's OK.

NW 7.00 SR* is supported on Windows 2008 (Non-SR2 also). For more details, please check the following notes:

#1054740: SAP-Systeminstallation on Windows Server 2008

#1303262: Oracle on Windows Server 2008

I hope this information helps.

Best regards,

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for the confusing question. What I meant to ask was "What support stack or patch level of SAP ERP 6.0 do you need to be on?"

"Note 1054740 - SAP System Installation on Windows Server 2008" helped out a lot.

According to this note: SAP products prior to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 are not supported on Windows Server 2008"

The only problem is how do you know if you are on SR3 or not? I got that answer from this [IT ToolBox forum thread|http://sap.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sap-basis/how-can-i-find-which-sr-am-i-running-2551271].

They pointed me to "Note 774615 - Support Package levels of ERP/ECC installations/upgrades" which helped me figure out what Support Release I am on.

Thank you for your help!

Note 789220 - Support Package levels for Netweaver installations/upgrades

Note 774615 - Support Package levels of ERP/ECC installations/upgrades

Open transaction SPAM. Display imported support packages. Check the version for SAP_ABA or SAP_Basis. Then you've the netweaver support package stack.

Take a look at note 789220.

Best regards

Thomas
