ALE, XI, SLD setup

we have new XI( sp15) system to be set up between R/3, legacy and 3rd party system. I would like to know what needs to be setup in the begining to get XI Design get going. Any step by step approach is available?. This may be Basis folks work but they are new as well. Thanks for any suggestions, links etc.

it deals with the R3 and XI configuration needed for IDOC scenarios.

Summarizing your Requirement :

XI SLD :

1. Create a Technical System for your R3 system

2. Create the Software Component and Prodcut

3. Create your Business System ( WEB AS ABAP) pointing to the R3 system

4. Create your Business System / Business Service ( Third Party) for the Legacy System.

IDX1: Create the port for the R3 system

SM59 : Create the RFC destination for R3 system.

Do I have to do WEB AS ABAP as my R/3 is 4.6B?. Please clarify.

yes, you will have to create a WEB AS ABAP.
