Solution Manager Diagnostics: Agent Architecture

Hi there,

current I write a degree dissertation about Solution Manager Diagnostics. In different books, documentations and manuals I read about Agents which must be installed on the managed system. But I find no exactly description about the agents architecture. In a book about the Solution Manager is written, that the structure includes two tiers. The first tier are the core agents, but there is nothing explained about the second tier ... Is a core agent the same like a host agent?

Can anybody explain me (exactly) the differnt functions of the agents (core, host, diagnostics, wily-agent)?? Or maybe some links will be helpful.
