i have a doubt here on item category determination:
I have two materials in which item category group is NORM for both.
when I create two sales order with two different items in it.
one is giving two item categories as TAPA and ZTAN for one sales order.
for the second sales order it is giving as ZTAN.
when i check the item category determination i was not able to find out any thing.
please help me on this.
regards,
balajia
Go to VOV4, select your sale order type with the combination of Item Category Group NORM and check what is maintained under the tab "DfItC". This will flow in your sale order.

Usage in Item Category: An item categories usage is defined by SAP when creating a sales order, The system determines for example, that the usage refers to a text item as oppossed to a deliverable item when you enter text in the order item rather than a material number. Based on this usage, the system will use the item category determination to propose an item category.
You can also find the usage in Customer material info record (T.Code VD51), if you want to determine any customer specific item category you may use the usage field in Custoemr master info record.
Thanks & Regards,
