Kindly advise to resolve space issue ...
Hi,
What is the size of "/oracle/<SID> ?
You can find and delete "core" file under /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background
Also try to clean up old log file from /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background and usertrace.
It would be better to increase the size of "/oracle/<SID> mount point.

Hi Rajesh ,
pls check the below output.
ROOT@SAPDEVQA:/oracle/IRQ/sapbackup#du -g /oracle/IRQ/saptrace
3.59 /oracle/IRQ/saptrace/background
8.38 /oracle/IRQ/saptrace/usertrace
11.97 /oracle/IRQ/saptrace
ROOT@SAPDEVQA:/oracle/IRQ/sapbackup#
more than 8 GB spaces are occupied /oracle/IRQ/saptrace/usertrace , let me know what are the old logs i have to be delete /oracle/IRQ/saptrace/usertrace , kindly provide detail info for deletetion of old logs in this directory (/oracle/IRQ/saptrace/usertrace)
Kindly advise
Hi Sathish,
It is not advisable to delete "alert_<SID>.log" file as it contains useful trace regarding oracle activities. The same will helpful in case of troubleshooting oracle related issues.
What you can do is, first backup the current "alert_<SID>.log" and then delete it.
Rather deleting, use the below command to erase the contents of this log file..
#su - ora<sid>
# echo > /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/alert_<SID>.log
Next find *.old files under usertrace, saptrace and background directory and delete them.
Regards.

Hi,
check out help.sap.com for options to brconnect-run "cleanup logs".
There are some 20 initSID.sap parameters, you can twist to decide how long you want
to keep backup-logs, disk-backups, oracle-tracefiles and so on.
Then schedule "brconnect -c -u / -f cleanup" periodicly and it will take care of all your logs.
For the alert log, you should set up a logrotate. This is easy, because Oracle is not
holding an active file handle to the alert log. It reopens as needed. Now an alert log of
1GB really takes some performance, because every logswitch needs to seek end-of-file
in the alert log, so this will increase log-switch-time!
Just rename the log to ".old", and do a logswitch, to verify, that a new file is created.
If this does not happen, somethings wrong with the permissions of directory ".../background"
You can then compress the log with a utility of your choice and will get back ~70-80% of space.
Schedule this once a month, depending on your log-growing situation.
Watch out for the listener.log in $ORACLE_HOME/network/log.
The listener holds a permanent handle to this file, SO DO NOT SIMPLY MOVE IT.
You need to restart the listener in addition to make it write a new log!

HI,
The error is showing that no space is left on the device.
Thanks&Regards
