Hello,
I have 2 questions :
1) When realizing MDM scenarios, do we need different environments (development, test, quality control, production) ?
2)Is there a possibility to transport the MDM customizing from MDM development client to the other MDM environments (in other words, is it the same way as what we do for transporting the customizing in R/3)?
Thank you for your answer.
Best regards,
Christophe.
Hi Chris,
When you talk about environments supported by MDM then it dasicaly deals with Data modeling and all other senarios are also dealt like development etc.But most important parts are data modelling, cleansing and storage. And Yes there are transportation mechanisms in MDM but different to R3.In console you can have slave repository for every master. But after every updation in master you need to normalise/synchronise slave with master to reflect these changes. Also at any stage you can remove slave from master. You can also create replicas. But R3's transportation definitely superseeds MDM limited transportation.

Hi,
The development cycle of MDM project differs from R/3.
Here you would first build a development repository,
make developments and then create a slave.
You would then normalise the repository to create an independent testing repository.
Same applies for moving from testing to production repository.

Hi,
1. Having different environments is a common practice and MDM is no different and it is more of a design decession.
2. This is one of the areas currently MDM is not very powerful and is expected to have better transport mechanisms in future. The existing transport options are NOT AT ALL similar to R/3 transport mechanisms. Currently, you can use "Master-Slave" mechanism to solve your transport needs. Please refer to the "How-To guide on Master-Slave" which is available in Service Market Place.
Hope this helps. Let me know in case you need any additional details.
