Crystal Reports and ntext

I am running Crystal Reports Enterprise v 11.0.0.1282 against a Business Objects Universe. When I try to include fields of type "Memo" (ntext in the database) I get an error, because the SQL generated by Crystal is "SELECT DISTINCT". I cannot find a way of forcing Crystal to generate a "SELECT" in this version of the product. Can anyone advise how I can resolve this? Thanks.

The vendor who supplied the universe says that I need to upgrade to Crystal 11.5, because this version has an "Options" button that allows control over "Select Duplicate Rows", which - I am told - determines whether a "Select Distinct" or a "Select" is generated by Crystal.

I am not able to upgrade at the moment, and it would be helpful if you could explain why this post was moved to the "Universe Designer" forum. It suggests that there is something in the Universe design that could help. Is this the case?
