Dear All,
I have run into an issue where a user can view his own data via SU3 only and not via the menu options System --> User Profile --> Own data. A new SAP initial screen opens in place of the correct one.
Any inputs on why this happens / is happening would be helpful.

Care to elaborate where these two sentences have a connection? Please: what do you mean by same settings ... in the context of the OP's problem?

Check on the following objects for the userid you are testing with using ST01
S_CTS_ADMI
S_develop
S_usr_grp
Also try to insert SU3 transaction in your Menu manually and see if it works.
If I were you I will give SAP_ALL/SAP_NEW and test it out before I do all the above checks.
If it does not work then ask your Basis to correct the problem

These are famous "red herrings" for those who believe SU53. It is not correct...

What is the thought behind this?
@ Avinash: Is this a PI system?

1. When you click on "view own data" through System tab from the Menu option
those three authority objects are checked.
We know S_CTS_ADMI & S_develop are critical object.
2, If we give SAP_ALL/SAP_NEW and still it does not allow display View own data I think the installation is not perfect/Complete.

Hi Julius,
This is ECC6.0.
S000 is the default system wide initial menu and no specific user related changes are present in SSM_CUST.
This seems to have happened after the latest SAP kernel and database patches were applied.

YIKES!!
This is incorrect! SU53 may come up with these objects. It always does when 'it' doesn't know what is really going on! You should know that by now.
Anyway: the OP clearly wrote that a new (blank) SAP screen is opened (and not an error message like 'you do not have authorzation ...' or simply nothing done or ...) - so yes, I second Julius, we need more information. What kind of system is it? What is your release/SP-level?

Have you searched SMP for notes on the problem? Could that be a conflict beween the kernel and your SAPGui??? I am not sure, we are discussing a security-problem here ... it smells more like a technical bug.
Do you Basis - people still have a backup of the old kernel-files? If so, could you have them copy them back to /usr/sap/SID/sys/exe/run in -say- a sandbox or even maybe in your QAS? If so, test the same transaction in the sandbox/QAS-system - at least we can narrow down the source of this error then ...

... something else: I think we can forget about the DB-patches ... they usually do not influence the Gui

I am very much of the same opinion. OSS doesn't seem to show up anything obvious either.

Hi Mylene Dorias,
This was the post with the second/simpler option to find the problem.
2, If we give SAP_ALL/SAP_NEW and still it does not allow display View own data I think the installation is not perfect/Complete.i
It could mean the version/release/support pack.

I would debug it to see where the transaction code is lost and open a customer message with SAP to report it.
Cheers,
Julius
