SAPInst <sapsid>adm

HI,

Installation Guide SAP NetWeaver 2004S in "3.4 Required User Authorization for Running SAPinst" says "Do not use the user <sapsid>adm for running SAPinst".

Someone knows why ?

What happens if <sapsid>adm is used?

Thank you in advance.

Pasquale

Hi,

>Someone knows why ?

No, I never understood it. Maybe it is a problem on windows if you are domain admin ans sapinst creates the users and groups.

In our case, the users and groups are created by the domain admins prior to running sapinst.

The system gets installed and runs fine. Most of our numerous installations have been made connected with user <sid>adm.

Thanks to Olivier and Markus for their answers.

I think that the right remark in the Installation Guide should be:

"Do not use the user <sapsid>adm for running SAPinst if <sapsid>adm is not member of the Local Adminstrators",

because SAPINST needs to check/insert <sapsid>adm in the Local Administators and this is not possible if SAPINST is used with a user that is not a Local Adminstrator.

Thank you.

The user <sid>adm needs some special operating system policies which even administrator does not have from the beginning, that's why you need to e. g. log off shortly after having started sapinst for the first time and re-logon with administrator.

The user needs special permissions like "acting as part of the operating system" and "lock pages in memory" and a few others.
