Hi All
I am currently trying to install a 640 WAS JAVA add-in for ABAP on AIX 5.2 running oracle 9.2.0.6 for SAP 4.7 SR1.
I have successfully installed the ABAP stack, however, when I try to install the JAVA add-in, I get an error on step "Start SAP J2EE engine". The error is

I am new to JAVA, and I found some OSS notes (668606, 545422, and 943498) that might help, but they may as well be written in German for all I can make out what the notes are trying to say.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sam
hi Sam,
Please check your Java Heap Size you have given. it shouldnot be more than 512MB.
i ran a check on the OSS notes. try the following solution...

on Solaris 10 / AIX 5.3, SAPinstaborts with the following error message:

Hi Ak
Once again thanks so much for following up. Unfortunately, I am still having no luck with starting j2ee. Below are some error messages that I see in files in the work directory (the file names are at the top of each section) that might be helpful in problem determination.
If you have the opportunity, can you please take a look.
If you need more information, please let me know.
Thanks
Sam

Hi Ak
I have changed my heap size to 512M.
I'm not sure what JVM version I am using, but when I do a java -version (as <sid>adm) I get the following:
java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2)
Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX 5L for PowerPC (64 bit JVM) build caix64142-20060421 (SR5) (JIT enabled: jitc))
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Sam
Hi,
Try the following,
1. The initial and maximum heap size should be : Xmx1024m and Xms1024m. Follow SAP Note No.723909 for further settings of Java VM
2. Download the Java version 1.4.2_09 and install it.
3. Ensure that you have set JAVA_HOME in the environment variable.
4. Also adjust the system's virual memory settings.

Hi James
Sorry for the late reply, try the following site:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/aix/service.html
I can't remember if you need to register or not.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I had this exact problem. I was installing the Java add-on to a new ABAP system installed from NW04 SR1 DVDs. Note 716927 states that the version of the startup framework on the installation DVDs is not correct for AIX, and says to update the framework. I did this, and the j2ee engine then started (I also increased the bootstrap heap size to 512M first, but this didn't fix the problem).
So check the above note, and also note 710914 on how to update the framework. Note that it said to update the jstartup.jar file for the dispatcher and server too, but these directories didn't yet exist for me.

James Blair

Dear sam,
Whether you are using the JRE specific for SAP?if not you will get similar errors.
Check the java version using 'java -version' command, you should get similar output as below.
java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2)
Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX 5L for PowerPC (64 bit JVM) build caix64142sr1aifx-20051020 <b>(SAP 142SR1a + 88494 + 84428 + 83602 + 89528 + 90372 + 88233 + 66827 + 92741 + 95636 + 96556 + 96581)</b> (JIT enabled: jitc)).

Hi Cheriyan
Thanks for the response. I checked my java version, and it seems that is correct.
java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2)
Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX build ca142-20050929a (SR3) (JIT enabled: jitc))
I think my problem might be around my java heap size.
Thanks again for the help.
Sam
