As said check the parameter in initSID.sap then before taking backup first initialize / lable the tape in brtools then proceed for taking backup.

Hi,

rmt0 Defined 04-00-01 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive (FCP)

rmt1 Defined 04-01-01 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive (FCP)

rmt2 Available 04-00-01 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive (FCP)

rmt3 Available 04-01-01 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive (FCP)

smc0 Defined 04-00-01 IBM 3573 Tape Medium Changer (FCP)

smc1 Available 04-01-01 IBM 3573 Tape Medium Changer (FCP)

If I am not wrong you can use the devices which has status "Available"....

So try to configure and use rmt2, rmt3 or smc1 tape device in init<SID>.sap file.

Hope, it will help you...

Try to find the tape which is really available,before changing the parameter initSID.sap

You can test by the commond "tar -cxf /dev/rmtx"

Hi,

You need to change the below parameters in init<SID>.sap

(use "rmt2" instead of "rmt0")

(make backup of your existing init<SID>.sap file before modifications...)

tape_address_rewind

tape_address

Hi,

In your scenario, it should be like:

For AIX :

tape_address_rew = /dev/rmt2

and

tape_address = /dev/rmt2.1

(Apologies, Please ignore my previous post...)

Hi

Is the Device name correct. Also is the device getting properly reached. It might be issue at the HW level...

Thanks

Hi,

During the tape operations brbackup needs to rewind the tape hence ther's a command for it in rewind_cmd in init<sid>.sap

It fails with error '//dev/rmt0: No such device or address' which could mean that either the tape drive has some problems or it's name is incorrect. Since Brbackup uses normal OS command for the operation, you can also reproduce it outside brbackup

In any case you should check with you HW team since its a problem with the tape drive itself and not from brtiools

Br,

Javier
