Dear Gurus,
Once a Lean Warehouse is assigned to the Plant / Storage Location combination, what extra processes have to be followed (as compared to without LWM assignment) in SD and if possible in MM?
In SD, without LWM - VA01, VL01n (Pick Qty - PGI), VF01
In SD with LWM - VA01, VL01n (Pick Qty), LT03 (PGI), VF01 (or any thing else?)
My understanding is, if company has full WM with all the procedures and some branch where only a few activities takes place, maybe there we can have LWM with very few T Codes to complete GRs and GIs.
But at our client's place there is no WM, just LWM, so what do they want to achieve with this? I just want to know the reasons why onlyLWM is implemented without WM.
Thanks and regards
Venkat - Hyd
Hello Venkat
The main difference is how stock is maintained- in Lean WM, Inventory and movements are maintained at storage location level, where as in full WM, they are done at storage bin level. With Quants.
However Transfer orders, picking and GI all remain same, so if you want to do warehouse movements as if you using full WMS, but don't want to get into Storage Bins and Quants, then lean WM is the way to go. In that case, stock overview is through Inventory Managment t codes (MMBE for example) and not with WM T codes (LS26 etc.)
One other difference is that in Lean WM you can use Transfer Order as a Pick list. So if you want to do picking out of warehouse, but don't want to go all the way, then Lean is the answer for you.
Here is the link which mentions the points I summarized:

So can I say, if we are not using Warehouse Management, we need not use Lean Warehouse Management?
If you say, Transfer Order can be used as Pick Lists, we already have Pick Lists, so what is the advantage of Transfer Order over Pick List?
So we come to the same question, why do we need to use LWM when we use IM only?

Correct, if you don't want (need) to do Transfer orders, picking from WM, then you don't need Lean or any WM. Historically WM came up strongly around 4.6 timeframe and the main reason for its upsurge was large comanies with real huge warehouses and the need to specify the location to the picker.
