Systemcopy or migration?

Hello everybody,

we have some new Solaris-Servers for our netweaver 7.0 ABAP-System (Oracle). The former servers were some Sun Fire V1280 and V490, OS Solaris 9. The new ones are two Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server, on which we will need Solaris 10 OS. We will keep the Oracle database system.

Can anybody give us absolutely reliable information about transporting our productive system to M4000? Is it possible to do a simple system copy or will we need a real migration?

Kind regards,

Christine

Well, you OS doesn't change, it is only being upgrades, so this will be a homogeneous system copy...

Hello Mark,

that would be great. The servers should be binary compatible. Do you think SAP would agree, if we copy a backup of the production system to the new server?

Thanks and kind regards,

Christine

Yes, I have just checked the speficiations in the course TADM70 (SAP System: OS and DB Migration) and when the OS doesn't change than it is a homogeneous system copy. This can always be performed using a backup/restore.

Perhaps you could also attach the current storage to the new server..
