Hi,
Let me make it a bit clear.
What is the difference between Product, Material and Item master data.
Are they related with each other in any sence ?

Hi Deepak,
As far as my knowledge these three are same.
It is just a way to refer in different way.
Basiaclly in a core scenario we cal it as a material master record i..e data stored in data base.
But when we use this recods in creating documents like Purchase order we call item and it can be product item or service item(service item if we add service mater record)
Material master is of 4 types
1.raw material
2.Operating supplies
3.semi finished goods
4.finished goods
Hope it clarifies yr doubt.
Thanks,
Sudhanshu
Hi,
In addition to what Sudhanshu mentioned, Material can be any goods that are the subject of your company's business activity.
While The product are those goods which your company purchases and sells.
Also, Material Master term is generally used in case of ECC while Product Master is used in CRM & SRM.
Please check below threads with the same Question.
Kindly revert if you have any further question.
Best Regards,
Shiv
Hi Deepak
Materials can be of multiple types and used in more general way- Raw materials, Finished Goods, so on..
Products are always Finished goods or services sold or purchased by an organisation.
Item are more retail scenario specific and can be further broken as Inventory Item, Sales Item or Purchased Item.
There can be significant differences in the data model for above 3. Whereas Product/material will have MRP views and say BOM, routings required for pricing Items will have more attributes for shelf life determination, Inventory parameters.
hope this helps-Ravi
