ECC system with Netweaver EHP1 but without ERP EHP4 possible?

In the past a system was installed using the ECC cd´s because netweaver standalone was not available through download at that time.

We only use the system for SAP BW 7.0.

According to notes and faq it is not allowed to install just NW EHP1 on a ECC system without installing EHP4 for ERP.

Does this also apply if only SAP BW functionality is used? We are not planning to use any ECC functionality on that system.

Yes.

There are dependencies between the components.

This confirms my thinking. So I will go forward and implement ERP EHP4 to avoid any risks.
