Hiiiiii,
Account Assignment Category is basically used to determin G/L account for customer for different Revenue, Taxes and others
For example company want to post the revenue of material and services in different account, same can be handled through account assignment group
Customer is dealing with company now if customer is domestic you can post in domestic account if he is foreign customer then can post in different account.
Same with the material where if material is service material then service account, if finished material then different account
Combination of both can be used to identify the account mens domestic service revenue, foreign service revenue or material selling revenue.
Configuration path : SPRO --> SALES & DISTRIBUTION -
> BASIC FUNCTION -
> ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT COSTING -
DEFINE MASTER DATA RELEVANCE FOR ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT
here you can create customer specific accont assignment group and material as well

Hi,
Account assignment is done in VKOA. Where you assign G/L accounts to the combination of condition type (KOFI/KOFK), chart of accounts, sales organization, Account assignment group of customer and Account assignment group of material and account keys.
Account assignment groups you maintain in customer master in sales area data, billing tab and for material master in Sales Org 2 tab
