Can we only use the catalog feature from SRM without the rest?

I have a client that has the SRM licenses. At the moment, they would like to implement the Catalog feature of SRM. Their immediate requirement is that when creating purchase requisitions in SAP ERP, there are too many "free text" errors. In order to overcome this, they want to enable the SRM Catalog and use it specifically for free text items in the PR.

Firstly, is this possible, and secondly, will it integrate seamlessly with the ERP Purchase Requisition transaction?

Go to transation SPRO.

Materials Management > Purchasing > Environment Data > Web Services: ID and Description

Define the catalog similar to cniguration in SRM. Flag it as 'Default Indicator'.

The go to ME51N and you should be ale to accss tha catalog in the item overview section via the 'Catalog'-button.

May I ask how are we going to activate them in SRM? We are to install SRM and we are required to support e-catalouge feature. Can you please help me with this? Any feedback is highly appreciated.
