Receive SMS to SAP via Netweaver Mobile

All,

I am an analyst in the area of sales & ops (mostly SD/MM) and I am hoping to find some inputs to our solution design regarding Netweaver Mobile (We are in the process of upgrading from 4.6C to ECC 6 so we haven't yet seen Netweaver)

We are looking for a sales activity updating application where in sales personnel on the field should be able to send activity updates from their mobile phones which should create a standard sales activity document in SAP. Our business is not currently looking at the mobile client as it requires smartphones / PDAs. This therefore rules out mobile sales in R/3 or CRM. They only want the sales personnel to send a few SMS messages from an ordinary mobile phone but with certain pre-defined codes (including customer code, type of call, etc.) so that SAP can interpret them and create sales activity with necessary details.

Can someone advise if the SMS channel of Netweaver Mobile can be used to 'receive' SMS that can trigger some sort of BAPI internally to create application documents such as sales activity?

Thanks & Regards,

KC

You could use a GSM modem to receive the SMS messages and use [GSM modem software|http://www.diafaan.com/] to forward the messages to SAP. The Diafaan software can send the [received SMS messages to e-mail|http://www.diafaan.com/applications/e-mail-to-sms-gateway/] or put the messages in a database table.

Hi ,

SMS channel for NW Mobile currently caters to data flow to the devices .

It does not handle data uploaded from a device via SMS in the inbound direction.

There are thoughts around this area but only for future releases & just in the very early stages.
