DMS Seal system watermarking solution

We have implemented Seal system watermarking solution for watermarking the PDF files in SAP DMS. But when we are opening these files, certailn files are opening with matermak as per our requirements, but some other PDF files are not getting opened. Weu2019ve analyzed the error u201CPDF DECRYPTION FAILEDu201D which is occurring for many PDF documents in SAP-DMS, and came to know that this error is due to certain properties of PDF files which SEAL system watermarking solution is unable to decrypt. For your reference, Iu2019m attaching a presentation capturing the properties for two different PDF files. SEAL system watermarking solution is unable to decrypt the first file but the second file is decrypted by the same system.

Behind this question is the assumption that all PDF documents are equal. In fact, this is not true. A PDF document can be created with many manipulation restrictions, security settings and even imbedded "rich content" and Javascripting - all of which make processing and printing difficult.

I've come to the conclusion that if you want to print a PDF, the physical version of the document should be prepared to ensure that the intended use, namely printing, can be carried out. Amongst the preparation activities are removing printing and manipulation restrictions, removing embedd rich content and Javascripting and ensuring all the necessary fonts are imbedded. This of course implies a level of document management that many customers haven't even thought of.

I believe SEAL have a product called PDF Checker, which can check amongst other things, whether the PDF document can be printed. The PDF checker can be integrated into the DMS document check-in process, to capture potential problems up-front during the document authoring cycle - when something can be done about it - rather in the document consumption process - during printing - when very little can be done about it.

Is this not potentially a security issue with the PDF's? Some PDF files have built in security to prevent printing or changes which is why Seal may have an issue. Seal cannot bypass security authorisations of a document.

Hi Yogesh,

Kindly check the following points:

1. The versions of adobe acrobat supported by seal system. The file you have attached are generated in same verison or different?

2. The mime type is defined properly in DC30 for pdf files.

3. The acrobat reader is installed on PC's where you are checking these files. This problem you are facing on same

PC or different? Please check for this.

I hope this may help.

Regards,
