SAP NW2004S with only ABAP+JAVA

Hi

I know this is a silly question. But i am a begineer and have this question since long.

I am trying to install NW2004S SR2.I know PI, BI, EP, MI...has some business/techincal

functionality. If I needed to install PI I need to select (through sapinst.exe) these

3 options(AS ABAPAS JAVAPI)

But I have seen, sneak previews and all are delivered with only AS ABAP+ AS JAVA (they call

it as netweaver 2004s). Could you please adavise where we will use this kind of installation ?

i.e simply AS ABAP +AS JAVA without any additional component ?

Just a simple ABAP + java is a so called NetWeaver stack.. (this can also be only ABAP or java).

The PI, or Portal e.g. is just a usage type which can be selected during the installation.

The usage type PI can only be selected during the installation process. Other usage types can be installed after wards as well.
