I have a large stderr file, I understand I need to look at this file and find the issue but I also need disk space on the server for the system to keep going.
What I have done so far
copied the STDerr file to my computer to view the error
reset all the trace files in SM50
cleared all the *.old files from the work directory.
what I need to do now is delete or clear the current STDerr file as it is still 4gb in size.
I have tried to manaully delete it by it is locked by the system, how can I either unlock it or clear it from the SAP system?
Thats correct... You cannot delete the file while the system is running.

Dear
No you can't remove stderr while SAP is running.
You should check which errors are appearing in stderr frequently and fix those to make sure the size doesn't grow abnormally.
If the problem remains, you won't gain anything by removing stderr as it will grow back to that size.
Kind regards
Tom
