Modify serial number in Equipment

Hello SDN Team,

my problem is in according to modify the material serial number in Equipment master data. I would like to associate to an Equipment master data a serial number that already exists into MM warehouse: when I follow the menu sequence 'Edit' 'Special serial no.functions' 'Change serial no.' and insert a serial number already existing the system stop me and give me the message IS121.Is it possible (perhaps whith customizing) to realize it?Thank you for helping

Hi Massimiliano,

Basically it is not possible to use an existing serial number when creating/changing equipments. The material-serial number combination must be unique in the system, hence when you try to use an existing serial number when generating the equi, the system will complain.

You can do one of the following:

1. Generate an equipment from the serial number transaction (iq02). This however does not seems to be your case;

2. Free the used serial number by changing it to another one:

o Transaction iq02 with the desired serial number;

o Edit->Special serial no. functions->change serial no.

o Enter the new serial number. After saving the old serial number is freed.

I do not know however what possible side-effects might arise on the MM side.
